Have you ever
considered if the choices you opt for are truly your decisions, etc., or are
you just proceeding the way you do because that's how everyone else does
something? In nearly every aspect of our lives, the option between making our
own decision versus following the crowd, often dominates how we do things.
Think about the last time you, or someone you know, bought something? Why are
so many people so label - driven that they will buy something and spend often a
significantly higher amount, for a brand, even in cases when there is no
quality differential? How about when someone purchases a high tech type of
product? Do they look at the features, and what they want, and what's most
important to them, or do they merely buy a specific brand because that's what
others do? Isn't following the crowd often the reason people buy items such as
MP3 players, smartphones, tablets or computers? Since so many people behave FollowersAustralia in their everyday lives and behaviors/ actions, why would we not
expect that those in positions of leadership so often simply do the popular
thing, often rather than the right, necessary or needed one?
1. Great leaders
understand that while they should avoid reinventing the wheel simply for the
sake of making some change, they must develop the willingness and ability to
address needs, thoughts and directions, in order to be the most impactful.
While one should never simply refuse to follow merely because he wishes a
confrontation, he similarly should never simply do something in a particular
manner because he is told that's the way something has always been done. It is
the sign of a real leader to distinguish between ideas and/ or programs that
are working and should be maintained, versus those that should be avoided and
done differently. It is never a sign of a leader to look for confrontations,
but similarly, if one really wishes to lead, he must examine everything and
create an overall plan to address what he perceives as organizational needs.
2. We often witness
this follow the leader mentality in the way most groups create and utilize
their budget. While a properly created and used budget may often be one of the
most important documents for a group, when this procedure is merely a meaningless
exercise, organizations and their leaders lose the opportunity to carefully
distinguish between things that should be maintained, and those that need at
least some degree of tweaking. If a zero - based budget is used, it enhances
the focus on every aspect of a group, and helps those that lead to be able to
create true priorities, and distinguish what is working and what needs some
degree of alternative approach.
If you really want to
lead, stop simply being a follower! Learn, understand and do what it means to
be a meaningful and impactful leader!
